South Africa-Far East cable system

Melkbos is one of the landing points for the South Africa-Far East cable system. The cable, which was completed in 2002, is an optical fibre submarine communications cable linking South Africa to Penang, Malaysia.

More than half of all communications come in through submarine cables that land at Melkbosstrand near Cape Town (SAT 2 and 3 cables) and Mtunzini, north of Durban (the SAFE cable).
